Driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Internet of Things (IoT) looks set to open up a huge new market worth 1,000 trillion yen. The main players in the IoT industry are said to be artificial intelligence (AI), data centers, next-generation vehicles, robots and global production factory innovation. In this climate, the market for electronic devices, including semiconductors, electronic displays and general electronic components, will most certainly grow dramatically from its current size of 80 trillion yen into a 200-trillion-yen market. The development of displays described as "post-organic" EL displays such as microLED or QLED is picking up pace and it will not be long before they bombard the market. This lecture looks ahead to the 200-trillion-yen electronic device market in the IoT era and highlights various developments in next-generation displays that are drawing particular attention.
