Taking Electrolysis to Gigawatt Level

The growing hydrogen market combined with the attractiveness of renewable hydrogen is triggering a rapidly growing market for electrolysers. Nel is currently scaling up manufacturing capacity by a factor of 10, to 360 MW/year in a facility which has room to expand further to beyond 1 GW/year.

Jon Andre Lokke has been the CEO of Nel since 2016. Previously Mr. Lokke served as CEO of Norsk Titanium AS, developing and industrializing 3D printing technology for the production of titanium components for the aerospace and other industries. He also has ten years experience from the solar industry through various senior positions in the REC Group, and has also worked for the ABB Group. He holds an International MBA degree from Glasgow University and a Bachelor degree in business and economics from Southampton University.

Carsten has more than 18 years' professional experience in chemical engineering. He works for thyssenkrupp since 2002 and held leading positions in engineering and management for design, development and manufacturing of cells and processes for the electrochemical industry. After six years as head of the design department for electrolysis plants, he took over the Product Order Execution department for Energy Storage and Hydrogen (ESH) from 2017 until his move to Japan. In the last six months before his move to Japan, he was also acting head of ESH. At the beginning of 2020, Carsten Schmitt took over as CEO and Representative Director of tkUCE Japan. He was born in 1976 and has a degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in Chemical Engineering and a doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Dortmund.
