In traditional automotive sense, the mainstream practice in product development has been to set up the milestone of releasing a new model every few years, and build the value chain with a focus on quality. However, in the era of "electrified" and "software-defined" automotive, the key to success in the fierce competition is to deliver the product to the users in a short time span while improving user experience continuously.
In recent years, newcomers of automotive industry have achieved some success by quickly integrating user needs into software development, and by using OTA updates to shorten the development cycle for feature updates. In addition, the automotive value chain is undergoing a transformation from the upstream to the downstream through activities including the renewal of EV manufacturing sites, the establishment of new R&D development and procurement system through collaboration between OEMs and suppliers, and the digital transformation in customer relationship management.
This presentation will focus on the latest trends in the EV value chain with insights and predictions for the Japanese automotive industry.

Lei specializes in industries related to automotive/ICT/electronics/mobility services. While based in Tokyo, he has worked in projects across several countries including the U.S., Europe, China, and India. Ichiro Daigo graduated from the School of Engineering, Kyoto University in March 1998. He joined the Department of Materials Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo in November 2002, as a project lecturer from February 2009, and as a project associate professor from April 2011, where he has been engaged in the development of new analytical models and evaluation methods based on life cycle assessment and material flow analysis to evaluate the aspect of sustainability on materials based on his knowledge of materials engineering. Since 2016, he has been an Associate Editor of the Journal of Industrial Ecology, and has received the Best Paper Award 2018 from Resource, Conservation and Recycling. He is an Associate Professor at Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo since April 2021.

He then joined Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. in August 2019 after working as Deputy Director of Data Science Lab, OPT Holding, inc. and Chief Data Scientist of Sompo Holdings, Inc. At Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd., he became Operating Officer in March 2020, and then Operation Officer at Yamato Transport Co., Ltd. in April 2021. He plays a role in building and executing a data strategy to maximize the utilization of data, which has become an important management resource, across the group. He also works on human resource development that will be an immediate workforce for companies in data science as a visiting associate professor at the Graduate School of University of Tsukuba and a director of the Japan Data Scientist Society.
